Inspired Conversations: Lindsey Vonn
Please join us for a lively conversation with Lindsey Vonn, considered history’s greatest female alpine skier and creator of the Lindsey Vonn Foundation. Vonn takes the stage with moderator Gail Rosenblum, editor of the Star Tribune’s “Inspired” section, for the first in our new speaker series, Inspired Conversations, focused on goodness, hope and solutions, presented in partnership between Hennepin Theatre Trust and Star Tribune.
Vonn, who grew up in the Twin Cities, began skiing at the age of two and developed into one of the world’s greatest skiers. Over the course of her career, she has captured a world-record 82 World Cup wins en route to 20 FIS Alpine World Cup titles, including four overall crystal globes and two World Championship titles. In 2016, Vonn broke the all-time downhill record (43 wins), claiming the season’s downhill title outright, on top of achieving the sport’s Super-G record (28 wins).
Six weeks after she turned 20, Vonn produced her first World Cup victory in Lake Louise, Alberta and in 2010, became the only American woman to capture downhill gold at the Olympics. After rehabilitating two back-to-back knee injuries, she returned to competition in December 2014 to later break Annemarie Moser-Proell’s 35-year-old record of 62 World Cup victories.
In 2015, Vonn launched the Lindsey Vonn Foundation (LVF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young girls to grow as athletes and individuals through opportunities and experiences that build self-esteem and create positive self-image.
People magazine named Vonn and LVF to its 25 “Women Changing the World” list in 2016. Vonn’s book, Strong is the New Beautiful (2016) was recently added to the New York Times’ Bestsellers List and a documentary chronicling her extraordinary recovery, The Climb, aired on NBC in 2015. Vonn will release her memoir, Rise: My Story, in early 2020.
